Visit two of the most charming cities in Spain and just an hour drive from Madrid. Segovia and Toledo may not have the hustle and bustle of Madrid, but when it comes to experiencing the cultural and historial delights of Spain, there is no other city you may rather go.
With two UNESCO World Heritage Sites and an overload of historical monuments, Segovia might be tiny but has ample to offer with its 16th century Romanesque and flamboyant gothic architecture scattered all over the town.
Toledo is so well preserved that the entire historic city has been declared a National Monument! With all sorts of monasteries, cathedrals and synagogues strung together in the twisted lanes and alleyways for many many years, walk along the cobbled streets and simply EXPLORE! Drive through the picturesque Spanish countryside in a comfortable bus from Madrid to Segovia, which takes an hour. As you approach the charming town, the Romanesque churches and dun-colour houses welcome you from far away. A professional guide will accompany you throughout the tour.
At Segovia, your bus will drop you at Plaza del Azoguejo, in front of the impressive Aqueduct of Segovia, the colossal, double-tiered structure ingeniously constructed with no mortar and runs through the old town.
Segovia is explored best on foot and your guide will take you around town showing you the monuments, enclaves and viewpoints like Plaza Mayor, the imposing Gothic Cathedral and the fairy-tale like castle-fortress, Alcazar of Segovia.
Your tour includes a fast-track entry to the Alcazar of Segovia, first built as an Arab fort eventually turned into a prison and later a military academy. Today, it houses a museum open for the public to enjoy.
Next, you will travel to Toledo as you reach this well-preserved historical city with no modern buildings, take in the stunning panoramic views of the city perched on rocks and protected by a natural moat and man-made fortifications.
In Toledo, walk through the labyrinthine lanes accompanied by a local expert guide and see its major attractions. Known as the ‘City of Three Cultures’, for centuries Toledo has witnessed peaceful co-existence of Christians, Jews and Muslims and the examples of this multi-cultural history are aplenty. As you walk through the dark alleyways, don’t be surprised to bump into heavily decorated, massive historical cathedral, mosques, synagogues and more! Walk past the famous Cathedral of Toledo, Synagogue of Saint Mary the White, Monastery of San Juan de Los Reyes and the Church of Santo Tomé that houses the most loved painting of the great native artist El Greco.
At the end of the Toledo excursion, you will return back to Madrid.
