One of the major highlights of this area is the Forum of Julius Caesar built in 46 BC by Julius Caesar.
Santa Maria Maggiore: Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, this basilica is often used by the Pope. The church contains many ancient mosaics and some beautiful frescoes. The medieval bell tower is the highest in Rome, at 75 meters.
The Colosseum: Inarguably the most majestic structure of the Roman Empire, the Colosseum (originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre) is inhabited by myriad tales of bravery, public life and royalty in ancient Rome. Despite the pillage of natural disasters, fires, pollution and wars, it is a living proof of the stunning architecture and strong masonry of ancient world, and has served as a model for stadiums around the world.
Circo Massimo: Constructed in 6th century BC, it was a chariot race track and was also used for other public events like gladiator fights and Roman games. It was believed to have accommodated a quarter of Roman population and currently it is a large grassland while the original structure served as building material for medieval and Renaissance constructions.
Piazza Venezia: Situated in the heart of Rome, this square is walking distance from some of the most famous monuments such as the Forum Romanum, the Pantheon and Campidoglio.
Musei Vaticani: Gazing at Michelangelo’s pristine artworks adorning the walls and ceiling of the Sistine Chapel to the splendid architecture and interiors of the museum is a surreal encounter with history and art.
Trevi Fountain: The largest and most ambitious of the Baroque fountains of Rome. Legend says that if visitors throw a coin into the fountain, they are ensured a return to Rome.
The Pantheon: Originally built as a temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome. The best preserved of all Roman buildings, it has been in continuous use throughout its history. Since the 7th century it has been a Catholic church.
